I’m Krissy Millar, a Charleston-based family photographer offering a full-service experience for families who believe photography is an investment in their legacy.
I look forward to talking about your family, your story, and what matters most to you. We'll chat about location, outfits, and details — but the magic happens when you're being you. I’ll guide you gently, helping everyone relax and have fun so your photographs feel natural, authentic, and truly representative of your connection.

you won't get it back
I’m a Charleston, South Carolina family photographer with over 17 years of experience helping families feel relaxed, connected, and confident in front of the camera. Whether you’re visiting Kiawah Island or you’re a local family who loves the timeless beauty of downtown Charleston, your session is designed to be meaningful, effortless, and truly enjoyable.
"Krissy has a unique gift to work with people and children to create what becomes art in their homes."
Kind words from
Sloan Family, past clients
Krissy took the most beautiful photos of our family, more beautiful than I could ever have imagined or wished for. But above and beyond that, every time we look at our photos, we have such sweet memories of the entire photo shoot experience and it has become a very distinct memory that we joyfully talk about as a family. Krissy has a unique gift to work with people and children to create what becomes art in their homes.
“Working with Krissy was a joy!”
Kind words from
Kate, past client
From the moment we met, she immediately adapted to our family dynamic. Using her incredible intuition, she lovingly guided our exuberant toddlers (and us) and captured each of our personalities and a special time for our family in a collection of images we are so thankful to have. Throughout our engagement, Krissy was also very responsive, accommodating, and focused on making sure we received a finished product - keeping us from getting overwhelmed or dragging our feet with image selection - and that was incredibly helpful. Thank you, Krissy!

We begin with an initial conversation to connect and understand your family, your vision, and the experience you hope for. Once your session is booked, we’ll plan more intentionally — from location ideas throughout Charleston and the Lowcountry to timing and thoughtful details — so everything feels seamless, elevated, and fully supported.

With 17+ years of experience, I provide gentle direction so your family feels comfortable, natural, and connected in front of the camera — whether it’s a family of 3 or a family of 30. Together, we capture candid connections and moments of genuine joy, all while keeping the session enjoyable and stress-free. The result is images that feel alive, timeless, and unforgettable.
03
After your session, I carefully curate and retouch your images with a light, thoughtful touch — enhancing color, light, and detail while preserving the authentic expressions you love. The result is polished, timeless imagery with just enough magic to make your portraits shine.
Every edit ensures your family’s personality and the joy of the session are preserved, creating images that feel genuine, playful, and beautifully refined — whether viewed digitally or as polished prints in your home.

After your session, I guide you through turning your images into custom heirloom artwork — most often a beautifully designed album that tells your family’s story. From selection to design, everything is handled with care so the process feels easy, intentional, and enjoyable.
Too often, family photos live only on a screen. I help ensure your authentic expressions and in-the-moment memories are preserved in tangible artwork — albums, frame collections, and wall art — your family will cherish for years to come.
Most families choose a custom album as the centerpiece of their experience.
Families often choose to photograph their time together here because Charleston and the Lowcountry are simply beautiful — from the beaches of Kiawah and Seabrook Island to the timeless charm of downtown Charleston. I work closely with you to choose a location that fits your group, your style, and the feeling you want your session to have.
Extended family sessions can feel as playful or traditional as you’d like. Some families want a relaxed, joyful experience with room to move and connect, while others prefer a more classic approach — and many choose a thoughtful blend of both. With 17+ years of experience, I take the lead with clear direction and sensitivity to family dynamics, so everyone feels comfortable and supported.
This year, I’m intentionally creating even more space for genuine connection and play — capturing not only images where everyone is seen and beautifully photographed, but also the quieter moments of connection between generations. The result is a collection of portraits that reflect both the people you love and the relationships that matter most.
After your session, I help you transform these images into heirloom artwork — from custom-designed albums that tell the full story of your time together to framed pieces created for multiple homes.
incredible...
...She went above and beyond in every aspect from the initial call to book our session to receiving our final photos. She was so helpful in coordinating family outfits, suggesting props & locations and spent so much time with us at the shoot perfecting poses and giving play breaks to our 2 year old son. We had the best time working with Krissy & I am beyond thrilled with how the final photos turned out. These photos are hung in our home and will be cherished for many many years to come. I could go on and on about how amazing and positive this experience was!"

From the grand oak trees draped in Spanish moss to quiet rivers, tidal marshes, and weathered personal docks, Charleston offers a backdrop that feels both timeless and deeply personal.
I photograph families throughout Charleston and the Lowcountry, creating sessions that feel natural, connected, and reflective of the place where your memories are being made.
Your family’s portraits deserve more than to live on a screen, where images get lost, children’s moments go unseen, and the joy of connection fades from memory. This is where your family’s photographs become lasting heirloom artwork — thoughtfully designed to be enjoyed every day and shared for generations.
Custom album design is the centerpiece of my offering. Each album is carefully curated and designed by me to tell your family’s story in a way that feels intentional, joyful, and deeply personal, preserving beautiful moments you’ll want to revisit for years to come.
Alongside albums, I offer curated frame collections and wall art for families who want to see their in-the-moment memories anchored and displayed in their home. Every piece is designed with care, so your artwork feels cohesive, elevated, and reflective of the joy and connection captured in your session.
Goodness. Beauty. What's real.
I want you to love your experience and your photographs. I crave the flattering light and I pursue joy and connection and goodness.
And I use the lens in my camera to frame what matters most to you and creating an artful touch to show it as truly beautiful.
I want to hear about you and your story — because it matters and deserves to be preserved. The more you share about your life and this season, the more your photographs will truly feel like you.
That’s why I love phone calls and pre-session video consultations. They give us time to connect, talk through what you’re hoping for, and shape a photography experience that feels personal, meaningful, and uniquely yours.
I do the work ahead of time so you can simply show up and enjoy your family. Every session is planned around what matters most to you, with thoughtful guidance along the way — from our conversations to a personalized planning experience that helps you feel prepared and relaxed in front of the camera.
During your session, I’m watching for beautiful light, meaningful moments, and real connection, laughing alongside you as it all unfolds, or giving you the space for the sacred moments too. My favorite thing to hear at the end? “That was fun.”
I’ve had the gift of living in some incredibly beautiful places. I began my photography business outside Los Angeles, California, using iconic film and TV locations filled with golden-hour light. I later spent six years on Maui, Hawaii, where I learned to truly love photographing families on the beach — creating images that feel natural while helping clients look and feel their best.
Now I call Charleston home, and it still feels a little surreal. From downtown streets that feel like a movie set to the soft pastels and dune grasses along the coast, this city offers endless beauty and inspiration.
Beyond photography, I’m a homeschool mom and a fire wife. I grew up in an athletics-focused family and competed as a college gymnast (and cheer/stunt team member), which shapes how I anticipate movement, and stay fully engaged during sessions. I began my photography business after my second child was born — and somehow, she’s a high school senior this year.
Photography has become my way of striving for excellence while preserving goodness, truth, and beauty. I believe this work is purposeful, and I’m grateful that it includes the joy of photographing you and your family in this season of your lives.
“We have now worked with Krissy three times and each time was a beautiful experience. (And we laughed and had so much fun-- bonus!)"
