Truth be told, I haven’t had a “favorite” NBA player in quite awhile– nor have I been following the league nearly as much as I used to. (I actually worked for the Sacramento Kings for a time, and followed it closely then and for a few years after. This also gave me the opportunity to watch a great many players and how they approached fans, kids, and the game. The first game I worked the Kings played the Bulls and I was behind the hoop watching Michael Jordan play.) This week at Oaks Christian School, there is a Nick Young basketball camp (it should be there next year too, and it is a GREAT basketball camp! There are half days and full days and the basketball camp is for boys, girls, and ages 8-14.) I had the privilege and job to go and photograph Nick Young interacting with some of the campers. I’ve posted just a few images below, just of Nick, and you will see a common denominator: he is ALWAYS smiling. And he was fantastic with all the campers– who had eyes full of awe watching Nick who returned to them his true joy of playing basketball. I came home and said, “That is the most refreshing thing I’ve seen in the NBA in a long time.” I’ll be watching the Washington Wizards this next season.
