The M. Family Portraits | Thousand Oaks (KM Photography)

Sometimes I get a phone call from a prospective client and I just enjoy the phone call, discussing the client’s hopes for portraits, their story.  E. called me for her family portraits.  They had moved from the Mid West and were in CA, her husband teaching at a prestigious law school, and her family had recently expanded with a new baby girl.  It was time for portraits, especially to bring joy to grandparents, in other parts of the country, who wanted portraits too.  E. was kind enough to wait until I was out in CA, and our schedules worked out and we set the date.  We worked together to make the wardrobe work well, and she was so resourceful when the hair accessories weren’t quite there.  She grabbed felt, yes standard felt, in yellow, cut two thin strips, and her #3 had 2 bows.  Brilliant!  Anyway, this was a fun evening, complete with it starting with me running into a very old, like 25+ years since I’ve seen her, teammate from my club gymnastics days.  Good times.

Now the added bonus was that this was my first session back, so we were able to have her Session Premier and I was able to deliver her images to her before I flew back to Lookout Mountain, GA.  (OK, flew into Chattanooga, TN, but that is just a minor detail.)  So, when I met her to deliver her portraits we ended up chatting, and chatting.  It was so fun to get to know this fantastic mom, and when a client becomes a friend.  She has a shared blog that encourages moms, and you can find her here: www.everythingtosomeone.com

That last one is one of my favorites, because of the story it tells.  And the colors.  Oh that reminds me, one final note.  Three families I photographed while shooting in CA were all wearing, yellow.  All pulled it together differently and specific to their family, but I loved it.  Yellow works great on camera and brings sophistication, cheerfulness, and happiness with it.  Plus it looks amazing with, what else, but sunshine!

Sunrise sessions aren’t always the easiest to wake up for, to be all fixed up and ready in time, but there are some great benefits too! For one, the light is dreamy. You can see that here with the stunning Siler, along the Battery, Rainbow Row, and more. Like many senior sessions, we approached this […]
