When a mom of four littles reaches out about family photos I know from the start that she is a master juggler. And mom Rachael was not only great at going with the flow, but makes motherhood and all the ups and downs look more like the tide that rolls in and rolls out, and effortlessly keeps going, being beautiful in its own rhythm. This family was visiting from Canada, staying in the Lahaina area, and we made a go of the beach out in Wailea/Makena. Rachael wanted a look with foliage and also the beach. Voila! (For those French Canadians. ???? And as I enjoyed getting to be a part of their family for one sunset in Maui, I learned that one of the girls shares a birthday with one of my girls, so that was pretty perfect too.
OK, so on this shoot, mom and dad tag-teamed with the kids, and we just kept moving and playing and falling in love with all the beauty around us. And their baby girl, well she loved that water and went through 2 outfits, and ended up like a little native baby by the end (just mom and dad get that precious photos). We grabbed the couple shots in a few seconds, because a few seconds later baby girl was headed to the water again. And we laughed, a lot, because the madness isn’t actually maddening, at least it doesn’t have to be. Instead the sounds of: laughing-muddled-screams, accidentally-stollen coconuts being hurled down on the sand, footsteps mixed with splashing, and the rolling tide, all those sounds all mixed together into family memories that are sure to always bring a smile.
