The other day dad M. called me to photograph their son’s first birthday party. I love special moments like these, and was looking forward to the party. I had no idea how crazily creative dad M. and mom V. would be. Wow! They had spent the entire week leading up to the party transforming cardboard boxes into a spaceship, airplane, train, race car, bean bag toss, canoe, and fire truck. (And great grandma sewed the bean bags!) Plus they had some very creative prizes in “packing boxes” and with “‘packing peanuts.” The game was a paper airplane contest (great for the dads too!), and for added fun there was a bubble wrap hopscotch. A hanging initial, kraft paper signs for the food and a Happy Birthday craft paper banner made it complete. Of course, the very bright pops of red everywhere made it feel cohesive, fun, and extra special. Great job W. family on an amazing first birthday party! And I have to say that one-year old B. was in such great spirits and absolutely adorable. Plus, all the sweet friends, young and old, had such a great time playing at the cardboard playground. The old saying that “kids like the box the toy came in more than the toy itself”– well this was a win-win!
