When this beautiful mom Mrs. W found me, her Maui family destination photographer, on Instagram, she let me know that her family wanted their annual portraits created while taking a special trip together and staying at the Grand Wailea in Wailea, Hawaii on the southern shores of Maui. They wanted to shoot their photography session at the beginning of their stay so that we worked with their jet lag and so we scheduled an early morning photography session. Before they ever arrived from the mainland, I had spoken with Meg, learned a little about their family, and then even went shopping with her via text messaging. (Really though, you can rarely go wrong when shopping at Anthropolgie!) I helped her tie in a few additional accessories for her look too, and she is stunning and looked fabulous. With the boys she opted for a a more neutral palette and the kokua nut necklaces to evoke a specific-to-Hawaii look.
This was one of the shorter photography sessions, or “mini-sessions” that I offer, at just under 30 minutes, which is especially great for families vacationing in Maui. With 30 minutes we still had plenty of great moments captured as well as contemporary, “relaxed posing” for more traditional family portraits. I had a great time just chatting with Mr. and Mrs. W, and their 8-year old son R. was a fantastic kid to work with. We ended the session with plenty of playing and had a little extra fun, especially because R wasn’t worried about getting wet.
With so many images to choose from, during her Skype ordering session, Mrs. W. opted for some beautiful black and white prints for the walls in her home, an all-color Boutique Book with all her most favorite images, and then I created some really lovely holiday cards for them too. It was such a pleasure getting to work with this family!
