Living on Maui, conference opportunities are limited, and the ones that take place in Hawaii, usually happen on Oahu. But for this Saturday, February 27th, ladies on Maui were able to gather in Kihei, for the second annual IF:Gathering Local conference.
The IF:Gathering that takes place in Austin, Texas and is broadcasted worldwide. IF is a conference that is purposefully, loosely defined. The vision, in my words, is to inspire and equip women to pursue what the Lord is calling them to, leading them in, and in that process to be real and genuine and without spiritual or personal pretense. And to do this through community, gathered together. Weaknesses are accepted because His strength is more than sufficient. Shortcomings don’t disqualify you, because the “Here I am” response is a greater requirement. Your striving isn’t helpful, but your surrender is. And although every female speaker that taught had on-trend and stylish outfits and great hair and make up and accessories, the focus isn’t on outer adronment but on just being real. Tears are not uncommon. Neither are laughs. The speakers we heard from included, Jennie Allen, Eugene Cho, Angie Smith, Bianca Olthoff, and David Platt.

So back to Maui… the all day conference included videos of the speakers from the IF:Gathering this year. We had multiple times to be in groups of 3-4 people to discuss questions, to be transparent with one another. There was worship and stories from our own local attendees. There were panels and discussions with multiple generations sharing. There was lunch and snacks and goodies and coffee. There were door prizes, and take-away visual aids, and communion. In short, there was something for everyone. Jesus met each of us where we were at: by wells, on roads, in mourning… He met us where we were inspired by His love, touched by His love, and confident of His story continuing to be written through us.
What is my take away?… Honestly, I’m just not sure yet. I have a lot of notes and thoughts to still process and pray through– and I will have to be intentional to do that. But I know the, “Here I am” is my heart’s desire for my response as the Lord continues to call and lead on this adventure we are on.
Here is a glimpse in pictures of the day… you can watch the video slideshow here or scroll through the images below.
